NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION ALTERNATIVE KAKANJ

	Proclamation on including the „16 days of activism“ into the calendar of local events
.	Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj participated actively in the „16 days of activism against gender based violence“ campaign. This is an international project and movement aimed to increase awareness of systematic nature of violence against women as well as to point that gender based violence was a form of human rights violation. Since the campaign began in 1991, there have been over 2.800 organizations from 156 countries taking part in the campaign. It has had support of numerous local and national governments and the UN.
	As organizations which are dedicated to improving the status of women and prevention of gender based violence, Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj organized an activity with focus on increasing awareness about violence against women under the slogan: DEDICATE * ACT * REQUEST: WE CAN stop violence against women. The campaign begun on November 25, International Violence Prevention Day, with a public announcement in placards and local media. On 29 November, International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders, we organized a seminar for approximately 40 women-participants. On 5 December, International Day of Women Volunteers, we organized a workshop in which the participants created drafts of criteria and regulations for awarding most successful volunteers in Kakanj municipality. On 10 December, International Day of Human Rights, we organized an official proclamation by the mayor of Kakanj, Mensur Jašarspahić-Suri, about including the „16 days of activism against gender based violence“ into the calendar of local events. During the implementation of the campaign, approximately 100 women participated actively in the analysis of the state of rights of women at local level and providing suggestions and proposals to improve it. The suggestions to have human rights included into criteria for awarding funds to non-profit organizations, formation of a gender committee as well as suggestions to encourage voluntary activities of individuals and organizations represent the basis for future joint activities of Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj other NGOs.
