Is the time of work actions in Bosnia and Herzegovina coming back?
There is hope judging by these images, although the tools this time are not carried by girls from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but by students from USA and Canada. They came to work on neglected trails leading the royal town of Bobovac.


Proclamation on including the „16 days of activism“ into the calendar of local events
Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj participated actively in the „16 days of activism against gender based violence“ campaign. This is an international project and movement aimed to increase awareness of systematic nature of violence against women as well as to point that gender based violence was a form of human rights violation. Since the campaign began in 1991, there have been over 2.800 organizations from 156 countries taking part in the campaign. It has had support of numerous local and national governments and the UN.


International Voluntarism Day
Third significant activity within „16 days of activism for elimination of violence against women“ campaign was organized by Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj on d December 2009.


International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders
Forum of women of SDP Kakanj, NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj, Association of women of Kakanj – UŽOK and Association of women demobilised members of armed forces of Kakanj muncipality organized a seminar focused on women human rights defenders and women human rights in general.


International Day for the elimination of violence against women
By placing placards at visible places in urban and rural areas Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj marked the 25th November - International Day for the elimination of violence against women. The objective of the activity was to draw attention of the public to and encourage it to think about violence against women. On the same day local media aired announcements about activities planned within the campaign.


16 days of activism in Kakanj
Forum of women of SDP Kakanj and NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj participate jointly in the implementation of the campaign “16 days of activism for the elimination of gender-based violence”.
The plan of the campaign activities has been prepared and announced in local media.


ISV and local volunteers completed planned activities at Bukovica excursion site
On July 20 and 21 ISV and local volunteers completed activities at Bukovica excursion site and started works on the trail leading to the royal town of Bobovac. The volunteers cleaned the banks of Bukovica River, collected waste from the excursion site, painted and installed waste disposal barrels and painted and fixed both shades, tables and benches.


ISV volunteers in visit to Sarajevo and Baščaršija
On Sunday, 19.07.2009, NGO „Alternative“ organized for ISV volunteers a trip to Sarajevo.


American students-volunteers in visit to Kakanj Cement
ISV program is supported among others by Kakanj Cement Heidelberg Group. This was an additional reason to visit the company during its Open Day manifestation.


ISV participants in visit to a primeval forest reserve in Kakanj
Second group of American students-volunteers (ISV) continued working in the Trstionica – Žuča forest region which is proposed by Kakanj municipality to be protected under the Natural area protection law. Interestingly, the initiators of this activity are ŠPD ZDK – Šumarstvo Kakanj and work group for biodiversity and natural values within LEAP (Local ecological action plan) which is presided by Maksuma Topalović, executive director of NGO „Alternative“ Kakanj, which developed projects for ISV volunteers' participation. Besides Kakanj, ISV also has volunteers working in Banja Luka.
